GDM’s FRONTIER LAND DATABASE
Geomatics Data Management Inc. (GDM) maintains and leases a database of Oil and Gas Rights for areas outside the traditional western Canadian operating area. The geographical areas covered are:
- Nova Scotia (onshore and offshore)
- Newfoundland and Labrador (onshore and offshore)
- New Brunswick
- PEI (onshore and offshore)
- Quebec (onshore and offshore)
- NWT (including Mackenzie Delta and Mackenzie Valley)
- Beaufort Sea
- Arctic Islands
- Yukon
- BC (offshore)
Attribute data for each licence comprises:
- Licence polygon coordinates in both NAD27 and NAD83 datums
- Licence type (e.g EL, SDL)
- Licence name/number
- Interest holders with percentage interests
- Operator
- Representative
- Hectarage
- Licence and expiry dates
- Work bid
- Specific substances and/or zones
The data is available as:
- Ascii files
- MS Access database
- ESRI .shp files
The database is updated to clients approximately 15 times per year. Updating to clients occurs immediately Land Sales are posted or Results announced, and monthly should no Sales be scheduled.
The major value-added features over similar databases are:
- Most extensive provincial coverage
- Polygons are computed from original licence information, rather than digitized or copied from third party sources
- Polygon data is available in both NAD27 and NAD83 in the same database, without the need to convert at the client’s site
- The GDM database was the first to cover this data and has been updated continuously since 1997.
- Clients include the most active companies in the Frontier areas and an active feedback mechanism exists with these clients to ensure a fast reaction to changes.
